MUSD Superintendent's Newsletter
February 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is hard to believe that we have completed over 60% of the is school year already! This year is moving along way too quickly and we have so much more to accomplish. Our secondary students have completed their class scheduling for next year and our school counselors and admins are busy building master schedules. Spring athletics are beginning and plans for graduations and promotions are underway!

As we move into Spring, there are tons of school activities and events scheduled for all schools. I am signing off on dances, field trips, sporting events, band performances, and all types of activities each day. These events are listed on the individual school sites and collectively on the district website under calendar events.

On January 27th our newest MUSD Board Member, Brittany Ayala, took the Oath of Office. Brittany is a parent of a 6th grade student at MJHS and was appointed by the MUSD Board, via a Provisional Appointment, to fill the vacancy in Trustee Area 3, through November of 2026.

As many of you may have heard, on January 27th, the MUSD School Board accepted my notice of retirement, effective June 30th, 2025. The Board has decided to hire a search firm to assist them in finding the next Superintendent to lead the district. The process will begin in mid March and will include stakeholder input so please look for notices put out on parent square, letting you know how you can be a part of the process.

District Updates
Immigration Matters and Support for MUSD Students and Families
The MUSD believes in supporting all students and their families and understands that recent changes in guidance and policy from the Department of Homeland Security in regards to Immigration and Customs enforcement may be causing anxiety, uncertainty and fear for many of our students and their families. Despite these changes, our commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all of our students is unwavering.

In the unlikely event that ICE or other government authorities decide to pursue immigration related investigations on our school campuses, school staff will follow all appropriate district procedures applicable to any visitor on campus, (following AR 5145.13), which would include but is not limited to:
Having the agent sign in
Providing valid identification and signed paperwork
Approval to be on site by the District Superintendent
We have also created a Safe Have Resource Page on the MUSD Website for our families in need of resources to help them navigate their own personal situations.

The MUSD will be hosting an informational Webinar on February 22, 2025, where we will be providing the most up to date information we have on where to access assistance. Information on this webinar will be sent out on our parent square message system to all families. Yadira Zapata, Coordinator of Educational Services and Patty Crespo, Principal of Las Juntas will be hosting the webinar.

We are also asking that parents submit questions they would like answered or topics they would like covered on this subject at the next two DELAC meetings on March 5th and May 7th so that we can be prepared or arrange guest speakers. The link can be found above or on the DELAC page on the District website.
