Principal’s Message & Weekly Updates

Welcome back for the 2026-2027 school year!  Thank you to everyone who sent warm welcome messages, came out to our Popsicles with the Principal event, and to our entire Eagle community for making my transition over to Morello Park such a wonderful process.  I am very honored and excited to be joining Morello Park as your Principal and look forward to meeting all of you this year.

This is the debut of our weekly newsletter. We know that our students do their best when home and school work hand-in-hand, so we’re excited to share weekly news, tips, and reminders with you every Monday morning.  From reinforcing the Eagle Code at home to aiming for our schoolwide attendance goal, thank you for helping us make Morello Park a safe, nurturing, and high-flying community.

This first newsletter is filled with beginning of school year announcements and reminders.  In future weeks, these newsletters will be more focused on the week ahead.

Happy Monday, Eagle Families!
Important Updates:
Check In Day is August 6th from 12:00pm-3:00pm in the MU.  At Check In Day, you will have the opportunity to engage with our amazing PTA, pick up important information packets from our school office, buy MPE spirit wear and receive your student's teacher assignment for the 2026-2027 school year.  In order to receive the teacher assignment, your address verification and data confirmation processes have to be completed prior to August 6th. See below for information about how to do each step.  When you arrive at check in day, you will follow the path in the map below.  If you've completed all of your required compliance steps, you will receive a fastpass to the lightning lane.

Steps to complete now:

  • Annual Residency Verification: PLEASE COMPLETE THIS BEFORE AUGUST 6. This is required for all returning students in grades TK-5. (New students enrolled during the current open enrollment period for the 2026-27 school year do not need to verify unless your residency has changed.) Please make sure this is completed before the first day of school on August 12th; otherwise, your child will not be permitted to attend. You may drop off your proof of residency at the school main office, the district office (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), or email it to mperesidency@martinez.k12.ca.us.

  • Annual Data Confirmation: PLEASE COMPLETE THIS BEFORE AUGUST 6. This is required for all returning students within MUSD. You can access the Aeries parent portal here: https://martinezusd.aeries.net/student

  • Online Meal Application: We kindly ask that all families complete the application, regardless of whether your child will receive school lunches. This helps us secure essential funding to support our school's meal program. You can apply online here: https://www.nlappscloud.com/Welcome.aspx?api=fe632405fe6c823b54c8f824cd95e573#loaded

  • Volunteering:  If you are planning to volunteer in the classrooms or drive on field trips you will need to complete the Volunteer process .  Please click on the link to visit the district website to sign up!

TK Boost and TK/Kindergarten Meet and Greet:
We are excited to welcome our TK students to TK Boost on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 am-11:30.  An email went out last week with details about the day.  Please note that this event is a drop off event and parents will not be able to join students in the classroom.  Our Kindergarten and TK Meet and Greet is the following Tuesday, August 11th at 2 pm.  The Meet and Greet event will include parents and will have time in the classrooms with our teaching team.

Arrival, Dismissal and Parking Procedures:
Please review this document for procedures around parking, drop off and pick up.  Our number one priority is keeping all of our Eagles safe.  We will have a hard copy of these procedures for everyone at Check In Day and will include more information in next week's newsletter.  Thank you for making sure you are driving with care in our parking lot!

Construction Update:
If you've come to campus, you've noticed construction has begun on our brand new TK Classrooms and Playground.  The Playground is finished and awaiting final approval next week.  It is absolutely beautiful and I know our kids will enjoy the equipment very much.  I'm including a picture below.

To begin the process of constructing the building, the crew created a zone that occupies a few spaces in the front parking lot and some of the sidewalk space.  The team built a safe walking area for students to continue along the path and have a protected area to walk to the campus.  Please make sure students and families use the path marked for walking.  This is especially important if you are taking the steps down from the neighborhood to the sidewalk.  Please continue to cross the street only at the designated area.  As construction continues, it is especially important to drive with caution in the parking lot.  I've included a map of the walking path below:

Join our MPE Team!  We are still searching for one more Noon Duty Supervisor to keep our Eagles safe during lunch and recess.  If you know someone who would be a great fit, please encourage them to apply.  For more information, visit this website.

Goals for 2026-2027: As we start our school year, my first goal as Principal is getting to know all of our MPE Eagles and families, and ensure we have a safe and connected school community.  I am so excited to be here supporting our incredible students.  I can't wait to learn more about each one of them.  As a staff team, we are going to start the year with an emphasis on our Eagle Code:  Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Kind.  We invite families to join us in supporting the Eagle Code at home and help build excitement around doing our part to create a community where everyone thrives.

Soaring into School:  MPE Attendance Update
alt_text At MPE, we are setting a high attendance goal for this school year of above 95%.  In this section, once school begins, I will share weekly attendance data and timely messages for the year.  Because there is so much research that points to the connection between school attendance and student success, we will be creating a school attendance team to help us achieve our goal.

Nesting Notes
In this section, I will include a note of the week or a resource to share with the community.

For our first newsletter, I want to share this resource page for parents about making the first weeks of school transition easier:  PBS Back to School Website
I found this website helpful when my 3rd and 5th grader first started Elementary School.  As a family, we created a few Back to School Traditions over the years including first day pictures at our favorite tree at their school, after school cookies with Grandma (their favorite tradition), and back to school shopping with me (my favorite tradition).

The beginning of the school year is my favorite time of year.  There is so much joy in returning to school each year, reconnecting with friends and building trusting relationships with our teachers.  I can't wait for our first day together very soon.

Have a great week ahead Eagles!
