Principal’s Message & Weekly Updates

We had a wonderful week meeting our TK students during TK Boost and welcoming the entire flock at our Check In Day event.  We had almost 100% of our MPE Eagles complete their documentation and earn their lightning lane pass before Check In Day - what I'm told is a record for MPE.  I want to express my gratitude to the PTA for organizing such an easy and thoughtful process for the event and especially to Miss Lisa for all the work she did ahead of time to ensure our families are ready to start the school year.  Thank you to our TK team for greeting our newest Eagles and making sure they had an opportunity to experience MPE before the first day of school.

We are looking forward to our TK and K Meet and Greet on Tuesday at 2 pm where teachers will welcome families into the classroom.  And, we are so excited for our first day of school on Wednesday the 12th!  Please continue to come and introduce yourselves to me as I am working hard to learn names and faces.  We are going to have a great year together and I can't wait to see you all Wednesday!

Important Weekly Updates:
Volunteers:
I have been impressed with all of the family involvement and spirit of volunteerism at MPE.  It's what makes our school culture so special and our entire team values all of the extra hours and support you provide.  We know that this year there are more requirements to be a school volunteer and it will take some time to go through the process.  These requirements are out of concern for safety and in compliance with the state Ed Code.  We would like to have the same level of volunteers or even more than previous years and would encourage as many of you as possible to become approved school volunteers.  Please review the steps and start the process by visiting this site.

Parking Lot Safety:
As we are all excited to return to school, please keep in mind that the school parking lot can be a very busy place.  To ensure we keep all of our students safety as our top priority, we ask that you give yourselves plenty of time at drop off and pick up.  Have a conversation with your students and make sure we all do the following:
1. Use designated walking areas only.  You will need to walk within the orange safety barrier to continue along the sidewalk.  Do not walk into the street or cross the street in the first 2 crosswalks.
2. There is limited parking on campus.  Staff parking spots are marked in the front and there may be some spaces for visitor parking towards the back parking lot.  With construction vehicles occupying a number of spaces, these spots will be even more limited.  We encourage you to park near the church and walk over if you are walking your student to/from drop off.
You may see Martinez Police Officers out to assist with traffic and safety during drop off and pick up times this week and throughout the school year.  Please review this document for detailed parking lot and drop off procedures.

Class Assignments on Aeries:
If you were not able to attend Check in Day, Teacher assignments will be on Aeries by the end of the day Monday, August 10th.

First Day of School Tips:
If your child is new to MPE or tends to be shy with new adults, they may have some trouble remembering their teacher's name and finding their line up spot on the first day.  We recommend writing your child's teacher's name on either their hand or a sticker that they wear.  This will help us make sure your child gets to the right place in the morning.  Our lost and found items pile up very quickly.  We also recommend labeling water bottles, jackets, and any items you want to make sure do not get lost.

Communication with Teachers:
Whenever you have a concern or something you'd like to share with the school, we encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher.  We know that students perform at their best when there is positive school-home connection.  Please start by emailing your child's teacher directly with any concerns.  As our teachers have many responsibilities inside and outside of the classroom daily, if you'd like a meeting or a conversation, make sure to set up an appointment.  You will see teachers out on supervision duty in the mornings, during recess and after school.  They are responsible for ensuring student safety at these times and will not be available to have one on one conversations.  Please make sure to allow them to focus on their supervision duty and not approach them with concerns in that moment.

Soaring into Success:  Attendance Update
As we start the school year off on the right wing, getting into the habit of daily attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
  • reduce stress
  • make it easier to connect with friends and teachers
  • support learning
  • Please reach out to your child's teacher or the office if you need help with attendance.
We are working to make our school environment a place where everyone can be safe, healthy and learning.  We will do our best to listen and partner with you so that our children have a successful year.
MPE Attendance GOAL for 26-27: 95% or higher!

Nesting Notes

The first week of school always brings a mix of big excitement and big feelings! Sometimes it's hard for students to share details about their day and remember all of the fun they had and new things they learned.  To help support conversations beyond a simple "It was good," we’ve created a quick "First Week Eagles" Conversation Guide for families:
