Our goal is to have over 95% attendance at MPE this school year!
We want to see all of our MPE Eagles attend school daily! However, we know there are times when you may need to keep your child home due to illness or other reasons. Whenever your child is out from school, it's important that you report the absence to our school office. To report absences you can either call or email:
(925) 335-5840, press #3 or email MPEOffice@martinezusd.net
Be sure to leave your name, your child’s name, the date of the absence and the reason for the absence.
Compulsory education laws require that we track and account for each absence. Please call or send a note stating the reason your child is out of school within 72 hours.
Per Ed Code 48205, a student absent for any of the following reasons is considered “excused”:
● Personal illness (District policy requires a doctor’s note after a total of 9 days of parent excused illness)
● Medical or dental appointment (District policy requires verification of a medical or dental appointment)
● Funeral services for a member of the immediate family (limited to one day in state and three days out of state)
● Personal court appearances by student (requires verification)
● Quarantine under the direction of a medical officer (requires verification)
● Employment of the student in the entertainment industry for a maximum of five absences per school year
● Observance of a religious holiday or ceremony (need advance notice)
● Religious retreat (limited to four hours per semester)
● Parent goes to or returns from deployment for a set period of time determined by the superintendent or designee
Some examples of “unexcused” absences are: family vacation or trip, family emergency, car trouble/no transportation, family member is sick or has an appointment, babysitting or taking care of another family member, overslept, not having someone available to pick up student, forgot the school schedule, funeral of someone not in your immediate family, or any other excuse not listed in the excused absence section.
If your child is struggling to come to school, please reach out to your teacher and the school office. We will make a support plan to work on regular school attendance.
