Principal's Message & Weekly Updates

As we wrap up our first month of the school year at Morello Park Elementary, our Eagles are officially settling into their daily routines!  Students are finding a predictable rhythm to their days and diving deep into their reading, math, social studies, and science curricula.  They've also jumped headfirst into their weekly rotations of library, art, music, and PE.
September promises to be another action-packed month:
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in making the start of this school year a success!

We were so glad to see the great turn out at Back to School Night!  I had a wonderful time meeting so many of you.  If you missed it and would like to check out my presentation, I've attached it here for you:

Our biggest PTA fundraiser of the year is coming up very soon on October 3rd.  PTA funds so many important initiatives and resources at our school, and we are very grateful for all this community does to support us here at MPE.  We would love to see you at the Gala.  Purchase your ticket here:  Gala Tickets

Attendance Update

MPE Attendance

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and at Morello Park Elementary, we are putting a special focus on the power of showing up!
According to our California School Dashboard attendance data, our school maintains strong overall attendance, but even missing just 10% of the school year—about two days a month—qualifies as chronic absenteeism and directly impacts a student's reading proficiency, math progress, and social connections. Every single day in the classroom builds critical foundational skills and strengthens our school community.  Building a foundation in strong reading, math, and academic skills all begin with ensuring your students have great attendance habits.

Wings of Support

PTA Corner

Welcome to Our PTA!
Walk N Roll is happening! Have you considered biking to school? If biking is something you might want to try, consider coming to the Bike Family Festival on Sunday, Sept 13th to give your family some skills and resources to bike to school. Don’t worry, if biking isn’t possible for you, you can still participate in Walk N Roll by walking, scooting or carpooling to school on a Wednesday and checking in at our Walk N Roll station at the front of the school. We’ll see you on Wednesday!

Movie Night:
The Morello Park PTA invites you to our 1st Family Movie Night of the year! This a FREE event for the whole family and the first of many movie nights to come!  MPE's DEI Committee with the Morello Park Dads Group present Family Movie Night!

FAME Volunteers Needed

We are currently looking for volunteers for all classes to help run FAME. This commitment is approximately one hour in-class time, four times a year. Schedules will be determined based on volunteer and teacher availability. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please email Shannon at Shannon.Bourget.pta@gmail.com.

What is FAME?
FAME (Fine Arts Mini Experience) is a lively, content-rich, kid, parent, and teacher-friendly fine arts program.

This program supports art education by introducing students to different artists & composers and their work. Students will have the opportunity to create their own works of art inspired by the specific artist discussed during the lesson. The goal of this program is for students to increase their knowledge and appreciation of different forms of art and the artists.

Morello Park Dads Group:
Join other dads in our inaugural Morello Park Dads Group. Low commitment. High impact. You’re invited. We are hosting the 1st Family Movie Night of the year.

We have 3 levels of involvement:
Level 1: give your email and attend any events that work with your schedule
Level 2: level 1 + help at an event
Level 3: level 2 + help organize
Contact Alain at avkaret@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Nesting Notes

Staff Spotlight:  Rachel Padilla
Our students have begun their bi-weekly Library visits with our amazing Library Tech, Rachel Padilla (pictured here).  Classes come visit the library for a story time and to check out books for the month at their reading levels.  These visits help encourage a love for reading and opportunity for students to choose their text.  They are important to our school culture and help us build a joy for reading that is shared across campus.  Ms. Padilla is in her 2nd year at Morello Park and loves being a part of our community.  Her favorite book to read at storytime is Buffalo Fluffalo by Bess Kalb.

Culture and Belonging:
We are so excited to continue our partnership with our DEI Parent's group this school year.  Our first Assembly will be on September 24th and feature a performance by Liondanceme.  The 4th graders will also be performing a song they are learning that originated in Ghana.  Celebrating each other's cultures and family traditions helps us ensure that Morello Park is a place where all students feel at home.  The DEI group is having their first meeting on September 15th.  We encourage everyone interested to come out and participate.

My family and I will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year this coming weekend.  It is an important celebration and time of year for us and I wanted to take the opportunity to wish all other families who observe the holiday L'Shana Tovah - a sweet and happy new year!  Have a wonderful week ahead MPE Eagles!
